President's Message NEW 09-26-11
The leaves are turning and there was actually a snowflake in the air in far North Wisconsin last week. I guess that means the summer of 2011 is really over. The months certainly ticked away quickly. It seems just yesterday when we were planning the annual AAHAM trip to Washington DC for Legislative Day. That was March 30th and 31st. Once again, it was indeed a memorable day. Approximately 90 AAHAM Members from all over the country came together to listen to key legislators or staff members bringing us up to date with what had been happening in healthcare and what we should expect throughout the balance of the year. We then had scheduled appointments with Senators and Congressmen from our own districts. Cheryl Meyer and I were fortunate to meet personally with our newly elected Congressman, Sean Duffy, who gave us a first rate tour of the Capital, including the Speaker’s Balcony. We also met with Senator Ron Johnson’s Staff Assistant and briefly greeted the Senator personally. The AAHAM position paper was much as it had been in 2010, with a slightly different slant. We asked that no matter what changes were made to the Healthcare Bill passed late in 2009, that the administrative simplification points be retained. This included the national plan identifier as well as other standardization that will make billing more efficient and assure faster reimbursement.
In May, Wisconsin, AAHAM partnered with WAAHAM, WMCA, and WCCMA for our inaugural “Revenue Cycle Co-op” Conference in Wisconsin Dells. Attendance was at about 250 and the program was excellent. Thanks to Shawn Gretz particularly for getting us all together and for doing a yeoman’s job of planning and making sure that all the logistics fell into place. Added to the stress of just planning an event of this size, Shawn coordinated a move to a new location just a couple of weeks prior to the event. Once again we say, Shawn, You Rock! The Presidents of these four organizations met this summer to discuss future joint ventures, and we all agreed that another conference in May of 2012 would be a good idea. This event will be held in Madison, and much more information will be coming out as the time draws nearer.
Most important right now is that you take a look at the brochure for the Wisconsin AAHAM Fall Conference, Friday, October 21, 2011, at the Stoney Creek Inn at Cedar Creek in Wausau. The slate of speakers for this one-day event is absolutely excellent and I don’t want anyone to miss it. Of course we will again have coaching from 2-4 PM on Thursday afternoon facilitated by Sandy Maglish, followed by our open Board Meeting at 4PM. Our social get together will start at 6:30PM. Check out all of the details in the brochure included with this newsletter. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me personally or any of our Board Members. I hope to see many of you in Wausau next month.
I encourage any one who is thinking about testing for one of the AAHAM Certifications to attend our coaching session on October 20th. The study guides have all been rewritten to specifically address topics on the test and we have also received a coaching tool kit to help with studying techniques. Professional Testing is scheduled to take place October 24-29, 2011 and Technical Testing will take place November 7-18, 2011. The deadline to register for Technical Certification testing is December 1, 2011 for the February 2012 technical exams.
The AAHAM Annual National Institute will be held October 5-7th in Las Vegas this year at the Wynn Resort. Over 30 educational sessions are offered along with many opportunities for networking with others in the Healthcare field. AAHAM-WI will be represented at this conference and we will report back later this fall. If anyone is interested in attending, you can still register online at www.aaham.org.
